YOUR BETFAIR PUNTERS' GUIDE

7. BETFAIR SP
Betfair SP or `Starting Price' allows you to
bet at the price you want, when you want. It
vastly increases your bet being matched, and
enables you manage your time without having
to manage your bets or sit in front of your PC
all day.
SP betting has generally been associated
with traditional bookmaking, where a horse
in a race is given a price determined by an
aggregate of on-course bookies' odds.
Betfair SP is different. It's based on bets
placed by both backers and layers in a market,
and is designed to ensure the fairest and most
transparent odds possible for both backers and
layers. Unlike a bookie's SP, there is no margin
for profit built in so it will invariably give you
better odds.
BETFAIR SP MARKETS
Betfair SP betting is currently available on
listed, group 1, 2,3 races in Australian, British
and Irish horseracing win markets, and British
horseracing place markets. Keep your eye on
international racing and sports markets for SP
betting in the near future.
1
Find your market
All betting markets are listed in the menu on the left-hand side of the
Betfair sports homepage. Simply click on the market you want to bet
on, then follow the links to the relevant event.
2
Choose the SP market view
Simply have the Betfair Starting Price (SP) box ticked above the
market view. This will bring up a column in the market view allowing
you to back at SP. If you have the `Back & Lay' box ticked you can also
lay your selection at SP.
You can also see live projections of the SP (based on SP bets already
placed and the current exchange prices). Alternatively, you can view
`near' or `far' projections: the near price is also based on SP bets and
current exchange prices; the far price is based only on the SP bets
already placed. Customise your view by clicking the More options
tab above the market view.

AS IT SHOULD BE.

3
Pick your selection
Simply click on the relevant box marked `SP' according to which bet
you want to place. Your bet (or selection) will then appear on the
right-hand side of the page in the Place Bets section.
4
Set your odds limits and stake or liability
Once your back or lay SP bet has appeared in the Place Bets section,
you can set a limit on the minimum odds that you are prepared to
take. You just need to have the `Set SP odds limit' box ticked, then
you will see that you are able to simply adjust the odds to suit your
minimum requirement. When laying, just as placing a regular lay
bet, you enter your liability, and your minimum profit is calculated
for you.

5
Submit your bet
Once you are happy with your SP bet, click Submit at the bottom
right-hand side of the page.
6
Confirm your bet
The confirmation screen will appear on the right-hand side of the
page detailing your bet. To verify your bet, click Confirm at the
bottom of the page, and check the confirmation to make sure your
bet has been placed. Please note that once confirmed, an SP bet
cannot be cancelled.
